The Murphy's, Los Angeles, California
Sean, Raphye, and his three kids took me to scavenge some firewood somewhere up in the hills of Los Angeles. We wound up and up through the hills, through some gated community, and up past some other gates to a viewpoint at the top. The kids and I rode on the roof of his pickup truck after we got the wood, and when were getting close to the viewpoint, three or so cop cars and one unmarked cop car passed us on their way down. We all thought we were screwed, but they just cruised right past us without a glance. I hung my head down to the cab of the truck, looked at Sean, and agreed that whatever they were up to must’ve been super shady for them to have passed us by. Gave me the willies. We went back down to Sean’s compound and fired up the fire pit. I wen’t around the corner to some Mexican grocery store and grabbed some chorizo and hot dogs to cook on the grill. We didn’t have a grill to put over the fire, so we had this 8 ft long sheet of galvanized sheet that we laid over the fire to cook the chorizo and hot dogs on. Never a dull moment at the Murphy’s.

Palm Springs, California
I had taken a hotel cruiser bike for a ride, aiming to get as far away as I could before sunset to find some photos. About an hour down the road, the bike got 2 flat tires, and worried that it would take way too long to get back into town, decided to scramble my way back on the rims.

I think a lot of my time skateboarding was spent waiting out the rain, or trying to avoid puddles after a rain. Two skaters wait out the rain at a skatepark in Brooklyn, NY.

We'd been looking for a specific property that was mentioned by a friend, where a guy who ran a private zoo could take us for an airboat ride. Apparently he used to have a Bengal Tiger, too. We didn't meet the Tiger, but he had Monkeys, Peacocks, Alligators, and several Cats. He said his airboat was broken, either it was, or he didn't want to take us out. Luckily we were able to find another spot, and Rick took us for a spin. He kindly provided a cooler and pointed us to a bait shop for some Budweisers.

Wicked & DeAndre, Rockaway Beach, New York
Wicked and his friend DeAndre were skating at a park in Rockaway Beach. I'd been scrambling around in a little bowl, sliding around in the light rain, and falling a bunch. A guy drove by and shouted at us asking for a guy named John, to which I responded - 'who's John?'.. He then shouted at me, 'HE BUILT THE FUCKING PARK ASSHOLE!!", and drove off.

We were at the Thompson’s cabin on Heffley Lake for August long weekend. I’d found out I was pregnant two weeks before, but my partner was the only other person who knew and we weren’t ready to tell anyone else. I felt so sick. Instead of saying no to drinks, I kept saying I might have one in a while. I wanted to have coffee in the mornings but I couldn’t stomach it. I felt tired and overwhelmed, but also so excited about this huge secret we were keeping. All weekend long I thought someone would figure it out and ask, since it was all I could think about. It was hot in Kamloops that weekend and I wasn’t liking the sun as much as I normally do. One afternoon, it started raining and most of us decided it was perfect swimming weather. Eric took this photo right before I dove in the water and swam across the lake. - Cassadra

Etna, California
The town of Etna sits on the edge of the Klamath National Forest, and neighbored by many other small towns. We learned about the 'State of Jefferson', a group of people trying to separate from California and Oregon, creating a new, 51st State of Jefferson. This was stated on almost everyones bumperstickers in the few parking lots around town. We opted to sit in this hotel room and watch 2001: A Space Odyssey on my laptop.

This was the last weekend trip to the original cabin my grandfather built in the early 1960’s. This cabin was my favourite place in the entire world, a perfect blend of wood panelling - fake and real - elk antlers, and a perfect view of Heffley Lake. The perks of this place included but were not limited to the fact that running water was only available during the summer months, there was no cell service, and the entertainment was a combination of VHS and DVD’s that had been donated by various guest over the years. 'Tapeheads' starring John Cusack and Tim Robbins, and 'House Party' (1+2) were go to films.
